Social and Community Work (A/T/M)
In Social and Community Work, students explore the ways in which communities are shaped and operate. Contemporary society is characterised by rapid change. This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to participate in, and make a contribution to, the field of social and community work. Consequently, Social and Community Work draws upon theories, concepts and ideas from the social sciences and science to understand society.
Developing understanding and empathy about society and the lived experiences of different members of a society provides insights for students interested in working with people and organisations to empower others. Students develop an understanding of how individuals and groups might be enabled and empowered, and the importance of advocacy.
